Launch of new Everest BaseCampMD
11:17 a.m. EST Feb 24, 2004
The Everest Base Camp clinic is growing. This M.A.S.H. of Mount Everest is Dr. Luanne Freer's brainchild and another unique service to ExplorersWeb's extreme adventure projects.
The clinic is valuable from several aspects. Not only does it provide health care to climbers, but the project specialize in hands on high altitude medicine, right in the midst of all the action.
The Doc writes dispatches and reports on everything as it takes place - an unusual help to both climbers and medical professionals to better understand altitude's impact on the human body.
Check out how the site already has grown to a wealth of mountaineering medicine content. The clinic opens on Everest South Base Camp 1st week of April 2004 and stays open until end of spring climbing season.
Dr. Luanne Freer, board certified emergency physician, wilderness medicine expert, and veteran volunteer for the HRA, heads the altitude-experienced medical staff, which treats all climbers/support staff at Everest Base Camp, as well as trekkers visiting Base Camp. The presence of the clinic allows climbers and trekkers to pursue their missions and leave their health care needs to the professionals.
