Houston we have Contact
22:03 p.m. EST Oct 26, 2003
Adventure Consultants on Ama Dablam in the Himalayas, Team Atlantic Wollf on the Atlantic ocean and other Contact 2.0 expeditions around the world have transmitted text dispatches and pictures again. Adventure Consultants shot off a pic from BC (over Thuraya) and the ocean rowers transmitted the first pic from the race (!) - an Atlantic turtle (over Iridium).
As the sun storm is predicted to last 1-2 weeks however, more transmission problems could be expected. So if you don't hear from your favorite expedition - not to worry - it's just our sun joining in on the action!
A few words from the Ama Dablam team dispatch: "As you can tell, expedition life is anything but predictable! Apparently the solar flare has died down enough to send dispatch photos again so I think re-sending one of our puja day and sending one from today is in order so you can see just how much snow we have gotten. A little under one meter here at basecamp, and there are reports of twice as much further up the mountain."
And from the rowers: "The last few days have been similar to what has gone before...we have experienced 50 foot waves which look like a block of flats coming down on you. At one point the boat pitched over 90 degrees which was very hairy...the turtle seemed to be very interested in the boat so we let it catch us up but as we haven't got many barnacles on the hull it left pretty quickly...Guy's bottom now resembles a baboon's. He is working on the theory that it is because his bottom is smaller than Hugo's and carries less padding! He is now rowing naked to prevent further discomfort!"
