Shisha Pangma: Romanian summits and upcoming bids
image story

May 11, 2005 09: 49 EST
The Austrian team led by Gerfried Göschl was not alone on the summit of Shisha Pangma Central on May 3rd. Along with them was one member of a three-man Romanian team from Timisoara-based Alternative Climbing club.

New to the 8000ers

His name is Cristian Tzecu, and Shisha was his first 8000m peak. However, Cristian is one of the few Romanians who has taken part in mountaineering expeditions since the 1989 revolution in his home country. Since then he has been climbing in the Caucasus, Tien Shan, Pamir (where he summited Peak Lenin) and even the Peruvian Andes.

Summit bid today

However, the Romanians are not finished with Shisha Pangma yet. Yesterday another Alternative Climbing Club member, Dragos Dubina, started a summit push aiming for Shisha’s Main Summit.
