Mount Everest 2005 SUMMIT from the SOUTH SIDE at last!
May 29, 2005 23: 48 EST
"Summit 5 minutes back!!!!!! Weather is good!" Damian Benegas (brother of Willie) of the Patagonian Brothers Expeditions, just broke the news to ExWeb.
It took until almost the very last day of the month, but tonight - or rather this Monday morning May 30 Nepal time, the Everest south side climbers dogged persistence finally paid off!
The forecast of lower winds (the jet was to move away Sunday) looked good, but not great: It would still be breezy at around 25-30 knots.
Still, the guys grabbed the chance and went for it. Luck favors the bold, congratulations, summiteers!
