Moonlight over Everest
20:46 p.m. EDT May 27, 2003
Tonight, the Alpine Ascents and the Russian Adventure team expeditions are spending the night in the death zone. The Americans on the South Side (8000 m) and the Russians on the North (8300m). The Russians could be pushing for the summit right now; the Americans will go for it within 12 hours.

While we wake with them, let's check out some of the most beautiful pictures shot this year. The Jagged Globe team has already summited, and tonight's picture is from Jagged Globeís Everest Golden Jubilee image gallery. Itís of the moon over Everest and is a glimpse of what it might be like for the current Everest teams all snuggled up in their tents or working the ropes, should they be lucky enough to get clear, crisp skies.

The JG gallery includes shots of the first black African climber's meeting with Liz Hawley before the expedition, night shots of climbers working their way though the icefall, an avalanche in the Western Cwm, and more.
