Missing Person Alert: Still looking for Gareth
Jul 25, 2004 14: 46 EST
Khumbu trekker Gareth Koch has yet to be located. The last reported sighting of Gareth was at Chhukung on the morning of March 8th by a German couple who said that Gareth was descending to Dingboche.
Since then there has been no sign of him. His family has been searching in vain, from sending a tracker to retrace his route, to postings on the internet that have yielded responses from other trekkers who had seen Gareth, to plastering missing signs all over the Khumbu and Kathmand, to a brand new internet site with everything we know about Gareth’s travels, his last location, and where he was headed. If you are planning on heading to the Khumbu late this summer or in the fall, or if you were there back in March – go check out the brand new site.
It has all the information collected, from messages sent from those who last saw him, to his route, to what he would look like now after a 4 month beard, and even a message board. Help find Gareth – simply nothing makes sense at this point as to why he would be missing. Any information about him, or his whereabouts would be greatly appreciated.
Gareth is of slight build, weights about 65Kgs and is approx 5’ 9” tall. He has light brown hair with hazel eyes. His hair will be longer than in the photographs and he has now possibly grown a beard.
He has no distinguishing features, but is extremely quiet with an easy going manner and a non-descript English accent.
He was last seen wearing a blue down body warmer and light brown trekking trousers.
“People have suggested to us that Gareth may have decided to go off and ‘Find Himself’. Well, this is not the Gareth that we know. He had too many other things planned in his diary.”
If you have any information or advice then please contact Gareth’s family at daviko@ntlworld.com or direct to the British Embassy in Kathmandu on 4410583.
