Mex/Can Everest push for Camp 4
May 7, 2004 10: 34 EST
Yesterday Andres Delgado, of the Mexican/Canadian team, made a push for camp 4 and reached as far as the Geneva Spur, just below the South Col. Here is his dispatch from this morning:
“Hello friends!
Yesterday we came back from 7,850 meters and our final acclimatization climb. Now all we need is four days of good weather for our attack on the summit. We don’t know when this opportunity will come but we are ready to take advantage of it when it does.
A hug for all,
Thin Andres from Mount Everest”
Check out the new images of Andres and team’s climb to 7850m.
Richard, a third of the Canadian part of the team, was not with Andres and team yesterday; “My attempt to climb directly from Camp 2 to Camp 4 was a relative failure. At our departure I already wasn’t feeling very strong. I took a chance anyway and climbed up to the Bergschrund on the Lhotse face at an altitude of 6,700 meters. I could have climbed a little higher but I wouldn’t have gained a lot and the fatigue would have been greater than any potential gain.”

This team comprises three Quebecois and four Mexicans "bound together by friendship and respect". The climbers will attempt Everest without oxygen (a first for Canada if successful). After Everest, Delgado will travel to Pakistan for a K2 double header.
Expedition members: Andres Delgado, Luis Espinoza , Alejandro Ochoa, Juan Pablo Gomez, Martin Boileau, Richard Cartier and Tom Masterson.
