Maximo Kaush: Lhotse, not Kangchenjunga
Mar 11, 2005 12: 06 EST
It’s another no go for Kangchenjunga. Argentinean climber Maximo Kaush has postponed his plans to climb the mountain until 2006. Instead, he is working as a ‘training leader’ for SummitClimb on Lhotse this spring.
Sharing camps with Everest
Maximo will be the leader of a seven member group on Lhotse, the neighboring peak to Everest. Lhotse expeditions usually share base camp and part of the route with Everest teams climbing from the Khumbu (Nepal) side of the mountain. The routes split up by C3, on the Lhotse wall. From that point, the climb to Lhotse is an increasingly difficult route up the wall and on its windy summit ridge.
First 8000er
According to ‘Gentedemontaghna.com,’ where Maximo updates news on his climbs, he will join the commercial team led by Dan Mazur and “will participate on leading functions, such as fixing ropes, etc., in exchange for his share in the climbing fee.”
The Lhotse ascent will be the first 8000m experience for young Maximo, who has summited Ama Dablam and several peaks in the Andes and Alps.
SummitClimb outfitting company has organized expeditions to Lhotse and both sides of Everest for this spring 2005 season.
Maximo, 21, was born in Cordoba (Argentina) but moved to Brazil as a child. Currently working in UK. He has climbed several peaks in the Andes and Alps. In October 2004, he summited Ama Dablam, according to his account on Gentedemontanha.com.
