Lhotse summit
06:40 a.m. EDT May 20, 2003
Adventure International climbers Lorenzo Gariano, John Rust, Pasang Nuru and Pemda Chirri all summited Lhotse this morning. It was a cold and windy climb lasting for about 8 hours. All four summiteers made it safely back to Camp 4.

Lorenzo called in an audio dispatch from the summit.

Adventures International is a small, personal, US outfit led by Scott Woolums who guided and summited Everest in 2002

Lhotse is the world’s 4th highest mountain, but often gets overshadowed by Everest because they are so close. It’s just a hair over 100m shorter than K2, and shares the same route as Everest until 7500m. Lhotse has two lower subsidiary peaks, Lhotse Shar and Lhotse Middle. The later was the highest unclimbed subsidiary peak until 2001 when a team of Russians became the first to summit.
