Latest from Everest: Very cold but NO WIND at 8300 meters!
May 20, 2005 18: 03 EST
Alex's home team just shot over the latest hot off the sat phone with Alex calling from ABC on Everest's North side.
The news are pretty exciting. Will luck favor the bold? Here goes:
"Today the three Slovenes Маrkо, Victor, and Vladimir climbed to 8300 m with a sherpa partner. The weather was quite good and climbers plan to climb to the summit tonight."
"The winds are quite strong in ABC, the weather is very cold and clear. Our friends at 8300 meter said that they have no wind at all. But the forecast shows wind up to 50 kms tomorrow at 1 pm. We hope for a successful ascent and descent."
"We spoke to them over walkie-talkie and I repeated my instructions to them on how to correctly distribute time of ascent, depending on the quantity of their oxygen."
Harry and Lorenzo coming down
"Lorenzo Gariano and Harry Kikstra came down from the North Col. Unfortunately, Harry lost his voice in the deep cold. Nikolay Cherny will go up to help him down to BC."
"Those are the latest News from 7 Summits Club Everest Expedition. Tibet side. Spring 2005."
Alexander Abramov has made quite a name for himself here at ExplorersWeb. He was the one to drive a Land Rover to the top of Elbrus and crashed it coming down, he was the one who slaughtered his own BC food on Everest two years back, and finally the expedition leader of our team mate's climb to the summit of Mount Everest this past spring.
This year, Alex joined hands with Harry Kikstra of 7summits.com, forming the 7summits-club.
Harry and extra guide Nickolay Cherny are leading Lynne Stark, Hanna Noel Richmond, Nate Schneider, and Lorenzo Gariano. Nikolay Cherni has 6, 8000ers and was a co-leader of the Russian Central North wall expedition last year. Lynne Stark will attempt to be the first woman from Northern Ireland to climb Everest.
Alexander Abramov guides the rest with extra guide Ivan Dus. The entire expedition offers a full service outfit with 11 climbing Sherpas (all Everest summiteers), and an expedition Doc. There are 18 expedition members in total.
