Iranian Everest ladies countdown: 14
Jan 12, 2005 12: 59 EST
Last week we reported that the Iran Mountaineering Federation is organizing an all female Everest expedition this year.
Sixty nine women accepted the challenge and attended the first tests Dec 15-17; a two day mountain climb on the Anehsara and Sangesarak peaks (in the area of Alamkuh).
31 climbers were selected to take part in a second ‘eliminatory’ climb. The climb took place last week and the results have now been published.
A team of 19 passed the second step on Mount Sarakchal in Middle Alborz. A third preparatory camp was held in January 6-7, one week after the second test. Fourteen women climbers were now selected to take part in the fourth stage of the elementary test:
1. Shima Shademan 2. Leila Bahrami 3. Bahare Soltani 4. Parvin Imani 5. Bahare Sinaki 6. Farkhonde Sadegh 7. Roya Sadat-Ghazanfari 8. Narges Shiri Beiocky 9. Parastoo Abrishami 10. Habibe Mahdian 11. Rezvan Salmasi 12. Nasrin Nemati 13. Laleh Keshavarz 14. Parvin Rezaei.
The next stage will be held on January 26-28 in the Hamedan province.
