Gerfried Göschl summited Shisha Pangma today, May 03, 2005 at 8:45 a.m. CET (2:30 pm Tibet-China time).

According to the Northland Professional home team, the entire group reached Shisha’s central summit without supplementary oxygen. However, Gerfried was the only one who proceed to the main summit, 8027m.

Further details will be provided tomorrow, when the team arrives back in BC.

The adventure will then be over for the team, but not for Gerfried, who will move to Everest for a no O2 attempt.

Gerfried's is the first summit on Shisha Pangma this spring. Simone Moro and Piotr Morawski summited on January 14th, in full winter. Last month, Iñaki Ochoa aborted a solo attempt on the mountain after becoming injured in an avalanche.

Gerfried Göschl (32) was born in Styria, Austria. He is a member of Alpine Rescue Team Gesaeuse. He has summited Cho Oyu, Muztagh Ata (7546m), Aconcagua, and G2.

Before he races over to Everest for a no 02 attempt, Gerfried climbed Shisha with his team of eleven climbers.

Last week, Gerfried Göschl, Guenther Unterberger and Martin Nuess reached the summit of the 7068m high Jebo Kangijale Peak to acclimatize.

The Northland Professional expedition consists of Austrian Hubert Rieger (31) and Günther Unterberger (38) – both with previous experience in the Alps and South American Andes.

Other members of the Shisha Pangma Expedition are: Georg Wenzl (26) and Hans Wenzl (34) from Austria; Dr. Andrea Lakatos (39), Dr. Helga Schubert (44), Thomas Scherzer (25), Martin Nuess (30), and Norbert Linz (37) from Germany; and Elio Schlijen (33) from Holland.
