First VIDEO of Everest North summit 2005 + South update: Urszula on summit!

Jun 1, 2005 20: 48 EST
Everest is vibrating with drama tonight. On the south side, climbers are pushing hard towards the summit, trying to outrun the jet wind luring just north of the mountain.

The latest from Exploradus was that Urszula made the summit at 5 am (!) with Nima Tashi and Pema Temba.

And Alpine Ascents: "We’ve just had a call from Dorje at the South Col who reports that he can see the climbers moving below the South Summit. It looks like they are doing well and definitely making good time. We expect to get a call from the team when they actually reach the South Summit. Dorje says it looks completely calm above, although they do have a slight breeze at the South Col. Here at base camp it is perfectly calm.

About 4:30 we were treated to the sight of the crescent moon rising over the West Shoulder of Everest. We can’t see the summit from base camp but this is about as close as it gets to the moon rising right over Everest. Now at 5:00 the first sun is hitting the top of Pumori. We can’t wait for it to hit base camp about 7:00 so we can warm up a little. We definitely have a beautiful morning going here. Next stop, South Summit!"

That's great news, so how about a sneak preview on what awaits the climbers: Shot on May 31, by Julian, it's the first video of Everest summit in 2005!

Transmitted by Duncan Chessell, who dispatched earlier: ”Julian and the two Sherpas just cruised up and summited at 6:40am Nepali time, only 5:10hrs from 8200m camp to summit, they then returned so quickly they only used just under one of their two oxygen bottles! Julian’s summit panorama video and stills shots are amazing and show just how good their weather was – little to no wind – zero clouds – a fairytale come true.”
