"Expeditions like ours, in countries like these..." Time has come for Seven Summit Club's final push for Everest summit. Imagine that.

First there were the Maoist bombs, and the tank rides on the way to BC. That's when they wrote the ExWeb special "Expeditions like ours..."

"We are climbers"

Then there was the Yeti's cave and a Vertical limit party on Everest north side. A few sheep lost their lives, and then Lynn and Noel had to leave the expedition, after Noel hurt his eyes. Alex said the Maoist shrapnel makes his legs cramp up a little in the mornings, Harry dispatched about Everest magic and lonely slopes.

And then they lost Marko. The climber died on descent from the summit and the team was wrecked. That's when another special arrived from the expedition: "We are climbers..."

This expedition's unorthodox Everest climb has been a true adventure, through thick and thin, through the good times and through the bad.

Tonight the night

Tonight - the finale: What's left of the 18 member team is finally heading up. This is Harry Kikstra’s latest, from the 7-Summits blog:

"Group 1 of the team has arrived at Camp 3. They will leave for the summit tonight. Weather is looking good. Group 2 has arrived at North Col, on schedule for the summit attempt on June 1st.James, who returned to ABC is feeling tired, but otherwise OK."

2 teams

The groups are as follows:

Group 1: Nikolay Chernyy, Yury Taydokov, Ivan Dusharin, Grigory Skaller, Alexandre Lakovenko, Igor Pokhvalin, Karo Ovasapyan, James Wilde. Sherpas: Pasang Tenzing, Mingma Forche, Pemba Tensing Samte, Mingma Gelu, Pasang Temba Geldjin, Pemba Renjin.

Group 2: Alexander Abramov, Dmitry Moskalev, Harry Kikstra, John Christiana, Nate Schneider, Lorenzo Gariano, Robert Ulph. Sherpas: Lakcha Rengin, Nima Dorji, Mingma Nurbu, Pemba Nurbu.

Alexander Abramov has made quite a name for himself here at ExplorersWeb. He was the one to drive a Land Rover to the top of Elbrus and crashed it coming down, he was the one who slaughtered his own BC food on Everest two years back, and finally the expedition leader of our team mate's climb to the summit of Mount Everest this past spring.

This year, Alex joined hands with Harry Kikstra of 7summits.com, forming the 7summits-club.

Harry and extra guide Nickolay Cherny were leading Lynne Stark, Hanna Noel Richmond, Nate Schneider, and Lorenzo Gariano. Nikolay Cherni has 6, 8000ers and was a co-leader of the Russian Central North wall expedition last year. Lynne Stark was to attempt to be the first woman from Northern Ireland to climb Everest.

Alexander Abramov was to guide the rest with extra guide Ivan Dus. The entire expedition offers a full service outfit with 11 climbing Sherpas (all Everest summiteers), and an expedition Doc. There are 18 expedition members in total.
