Everest team ready for close-ups
12:31 p.m. EST Mar 18, 2004
The Adventure Peaks team will be meeting in Katmandu in just a couple of weeks. Members of the team include a BBC film crew shooting for the upcoming TV show ‘The Challenge’. This is an 8 part documentary series and will be shown in October 2004 on a Sunday night between 8-9pm (primetime - 3-4 million viewers expected). The film crew comes from the world class cinematographers, High Exposure Limited who were involved in filming "Touching the Void".

Photos and Biographies are available on Tom Clowes’ site, and boy do they make one good looking expedition. With a film crew on the team these guys might look like actors but they are really a highly motivated group of climbers. So if you were wondering; no, there won’t be any tour buses at base camp this year.

Included on their résumé’s are ascents on Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Aconcagua, and many mountains below 8,000m. There are Army and Navy guys, the grand-daughter of an Everest climber, and quite a few transient adventure seekers. And of course there is the film crew who will not only be climbing along with the rest but will carry heavy cameras, lens’, and assorted gear while hiking all over the mountain for the ‘perfect shot’.

This north ridge expedition is a team of climbers from various nations. The non-guided expedition is organized by Dave Pritt's Adventure Peaks.

Among the members:
Serena Brocklebank will be following in the footsteps of her grandfather, Tom Brocklebank, who was a member of the British expedition to the north side of Everest in 1933. Tom and Ben hope to be the first British brothers to summit Everest together.

The climbers will be using the new British oxygen system (used successfully for the first time last year by the Royal Navy Royal Marines Everest North Ridge Expedition 2003. Check out Everest Oxygen week in the news pages).
