Everest North: Stormy night in C2
May 31, 2005 12: 00 EST
Harry Kikstra, from Seven Summits Club team, just (4.30 am EST) reported to his home team from Camp 2. Poor conditions on the mountain prevented the team’s first group to leave Camp 3, where they were resting after summiting yesterday. This is Harry’s latest:
Waiting for their mates in C3
“I have slept well. Heavy storm around us all night. We are now waiting for group 1, who spent the night in Camp 3, at 8300m. They could not descend further down after they summited yesterday, because of bad weather. We will wait for them to come down this morning before we go up.”
”I feel reasonably OK, and so does Lorenzo next to me. It is still pretty windy up here, and cold!"
Himex up, Duncan down
Duncan Chessell, Julian Thompson and their two Sherpas are back in ABC. The guys dispatched two days ago from 7900m and Jamie sent an sms of Julain's summit. There are no details yet about Duncan reaching the summit or not.
Jean Pavilliard and Monica Kalodzi, along with Himex team, departed today for North Col. Weather had been good for two days, but yesterday snow started falling again.
This year, Alexander Abramov joined hands with Harry Kikstra of 7summits.com, forming the 7summits-club. This expedition's unorthodox Everest climb has been a true adventure, through thick and thin, through the good times and through the bad.
Two Slovenian team members - Маrko Lihteneker (45) and Viktor Mlinar (38) - summited last weekend. Sadly, Marko was lost during descent. Although wrecked, the remaining climbers launched a new bid three days ago. Thus, the expedition split up in two groups:
Group 1: Nikolay Chernyy, Yury Taydokov, Ivan Dusharin, Grigory Skaller, Alexandre Lakovenko, Igor Pokhvalin, Karo Ovasapyan, James Wilde. Sherpas: Pasang Tenzing, Mingma Forche, Pemba Tensing Samte, Mingma Gelu, Pasang Temba Geldjin, Pemba Renjin.
James aborted his attempt before the summit day.
Group 2: Alexander Abramov, Dmitry Moskalev, Harry Kikstra, John Christiana, Nate Schneider, Lorenzo Gariano, Robert Ulph. Sherpas: Lakcha Rengin, Nima Dorji, Mingma Nurbu, Pemba Nurbu.
