Dawa's very first dispatch
image story

Apr 30, 2005 14: 29 EST
Contact expedition software was introduced commercially in 2002, and has since found devoted users everywhere, spreading to dispatchers outside the expedition world, disparate even such as bear hunters and releif workers!

Featured in New York Times in 2003, and awarded "Editors Choice" by Backpacker magazine this past March, the system is spreading fast. The Polar Challenge uses the system for tracking their 16 teams currently skiing to the Magnetic North Pole, and North Face uses it for several athletes and projects.

Off on an amazing bicycle journey

But today, for the first time, a Sherpa has used the expedition communication system - and that's special to us. Check out Dawa's very first dispatch, posted on the North Face Catarac site.

Writes the crew: "This is Dawa's first dispatch and it will not be the last. Next month, after he is done with our expedition, he's going to venture off on an amazing bicycle journey and will be equiped with the same Contact 3.0 dispatching system that we're using on this trip. He'll tell you more about his upcoming trip later on in this dispatch."

Khumbu climbing school

On this expedition Dawa is working with Serac Adventure Films - he has worked many times with the expedition leader, Pete Athans, including an Everest summit with him in 2002. He also works very closely with Conrad Anker and the Khumbu climbing school, which has been teaching the people of the Khumbu region proper climbing and safety techniques.

Check out Dawa's very first dispatch on the expedition website!

The new automated positioning addition to Contact 3.0 (GEO) is currently tracking expeditions on Everest, in Greenland, Siberia, Tibet, US (Appalachian trail), and the Canadian Arctic.
