Climbers abort Cho Oyu summit bid due to high winds
18:53 p.m. EDT May 19, 2003
Jagged Globe’s second summit party aborted their attempt due to high winds - they were up in Camp II. On May 11th, two climbers from the Jagged Globe team, Tore Rasmussen and Geoff Robb were the first climbers to make the summit this season. The team has since run out of time and is leaving base camp.

Cho Oyu, 8201m, just recently had the worst single 8000m peak fatal accident in 31 years. Early reports indicate that ten climbers from a German team died during their descent from the summit.

It is the world’s 6th highest mountain and second most summited 8000m peak behind Everest. Cho Oyu is known for being one of the easiest 8000ers and has the lowest summit/fatality ratio of all 14, 8000m peaks.
