Berg Everest aiming for Wednesday summit
09:01 a.m. EDT Oct 20, 2003
The team has arrived and all are safe up in Camp II, 6400m. Maegan phoned in the latest dispatch and reported that they are still set for a Wednesday final summit push.* The team will be climbing together, however, on the descent Maegan plans to continue down to Camp II via skis and the rest of the team will stay in Camp IV, 7900m, on the South Col.

All alone on the Lhotse Face Maegan will be on her epic descent. She’s feeling good, but also a bit hesitant as some of the route she’ll be skiing on will no be perfectly scouted. Normally she likes to ski exactly what she climbs, however, this is impossible for some of the route on Everest. Of course crampons and ice axes will be handy should the terrain get a bit much, hopefully they won’t be needed.

The whole team is keeping their fingers crossed about the wind – hopefully it will hold off on their summit bid, even though it has been blowing fairly hard up high recently. Game is on! Statistics traditionally don’t look too favorable on fall ascents of Everest – hopefully the Berg crew will bend the odds! You can check out the weather forecasts for the next couple of days on Everest at AdventureWeather.com to see what the team may expect.

Berg Adventures has the only South Side expedition this fall. They have a real challenge ahead of them these upcoming weeks having to fix and prepare Everest entirely by themselves. One of the expedition members, Maegan Carney plans to ski down from the summit.
