Annapurna update - possibly no summits, serac fall
May 18, 2005 13: 20 EST
As the shocking news of this morning's Annapurna accident is settling in, clarification of details are beginning to arrive at ExWeb. The latest is that the initial Italian media's reports might be off on a few points.
Alberto Pirovano, President of Spiders' Lecco informs us that the climber with Mondinelli wasn't Kristian Kuntner, but Cristian Gobbi, and Gobbi is well. The two alpinists didn't arrive on summit.
Other reports say that the avalanche might have been a serac, falling on the climbers on their ascent up. ExWeb will continue the coverage as details unravel.
60 year old Mountain Club Ragni di Lecco "Spiders Lecco" is located in the Northern Italy alpine province of Lecco, by the pictoresque Lake Como.
