Alpine Ascents summit at 11.35!
May 30, 2005 03: 38 EST
Mountain Madness, Project Himalaya, IMG, IAF - it was a summit Grand Slam tonight and at last, the news came from Alpine Ascents:
"May 30 SUMMIT! 11:35am THEY’RE AT THE TOP! David Liano, Vernon Tejas, Chewang Sherpa, and Thapkee Sherpa are standing at the top of the world. Cheers are going up from all the Alpine Ascents team members following them from Base Camp and Camp 2, as well as the climbing team heading for Camp 3. Congratulations are coming in on the radio from friends all over Base Camp, and soon from all of you as well. We’re really proud of these guys for getting the job done, and our hopes are high for the next team going up. This has been a real team effort by dozens of people.
But it’s not over yet. The next step is to get down safely. Our advice to them is,”take your pictures and get yourselves out of there.” We will still be following them as they come down the mountain and back to Camp 4 at the South Col, where they will spend the night tonight before heading down to Camp 2 tomorrow and Base Camp the day after. We do have some developing clouds, but conditions still seem to be reasonable as they start their descent.
I will report in as they return to the safety of Camp 4."
Vernon Tejas, Lakpa Rita Sherpa, Dave Morton, and Jose Luis Peralvo are once again guiding the Alpine Ascents International team this spring on Everest. AA has been leading climbers to the roof of the world for 18 years now. The US based company is one of the leading outfitters on the South Side. This is a full serviced guided expedition.
Among the clients, at 20 years of age, Danielle Fisher has a chance to be the youngest person to climb the seven summits, replacing the current 7 summit record holder Britton Keeshan, who was 22 when he reached Everest - the final of his seven summits - last spring. She is in the second team, going up probably tonight.
