Everest and Himalaya daily wrap-up: Camp 1 ahead!
Apr 6, 2005 13: 46 EST
Teams in Tibet are headed for Everest’s North Side ABC, and on the South side, climbers will try and make it to Camp 1 already this week. On Annapurna, Mondinelli warns of Maoist guerrillas patrolling around the Annapurna valley.
Everest North
Gerfried Göschl
Gerfried and team reported no problems with the Maoists around the town. The team plans on leaving Kathmandu today for Zangmu.
Jagged globe
The team arrived in base camp yesterday, two days after the Sherpas. Everyone feels sharp, with no altitude problems. They will start the process of relocating to ABC on April 8th. 30 yaks will carry much of the gear, with the main group moving to ABC over 3 days, starting on 12 Apr. The Jagged Globe team, plus three other teams are forming a co-operative to fix the ropes from the North Col to the summit.
Jean Pavilliard & Monica Kalodzi
Jean reported today from Tingri.
“3 days ago we left Lhasa, drove over 4 passes at 5,000 meters and above. We stayed in Gyantse and Shigatse. Today we arrived in Tingri and enjoyed our first view of Everest’s north side.”

Adventure Consultants
The AC team is enjoying a rest day. Tomorrow they will move to Khumjung, a few hours away.
Alpine Ascents
The large group of climbers and trekkers is currently resting in Pheriche. “There is a high altitude medical clinic here in Pheriche and luckily no one has had to take advantage of it,” reported one of the team-members.
“There is only one hot shower and because there are 31 of us, the list to get a hot shower is very long.”
Exploradus team
The team has left Namche today, after their Sherpa team from BC suggested they take an extra rest day yesterday, in order to make sure everything was ready for the climber’s arrival in Base Camp.
Keith Woodhouse
This is Keith’s latest report:
“I had a great night‘s sleep last night despite several very loud avalanches and a shotgun-like crack right under my tent from stress in the moraine. Today I need to rest and prepare the O2. Puja ceremony will be held tomorrow a.m. so, all being well, we will try and make it to Camp 1, and be back on Friday.”
Mountain Madness
The MM team reported yesterday from Lobuche, after receiving the blessings from Pangboche’s monastery’s lama and spending two days in Dingboche. The climbing team members Kay, Joe, Eric, Dean, Ray, and Javier hiked up Kala Pattar and planned to spend the night in Gorak Shep.
Annapurna
North side: Silvio Mondinelli’s team
The team is expecting to resume their climb today, after a few rest days in BC. Once C2 is fully supplied, the climbers will decide which route they will follow up to the summit. Then they will fix the way up to C3. Mondinelli warns of Maoist guerrillas patrolling around the Annapurna valley.
Dhaulagiri
International team
The Italians and Ecuadorian Ivan Vallejo are finally on their approaching trek to BC, while Iñaki Ochoa departed today from Spain. Read more on the last events in a separate story.
