Doug Stoup – Cinematographer, Snowboard Mountaineer, and Climber

Doug Stoup is a busy man, Florida, LA, Tahoe, Vegas, and then Nepal - all within 3 weeks.   Not to mention that between now and August 23 he has to pack and make last-minute arrangements for a 2-month expedition to the Himalayas.  Doug will attempt to climb and snowboard down Cho Oyu with buddies John Griber and Kris Erickson.  If he completes this Doug and his team will be the first American’s to snowboard off an 8000-meter peak.

The honor of having the first American descent does not matter very much to Doug.  For him it is all about being in the mountains with his good friends, climbing, and making turns.  He was first introduced to ski mountaineering in Chamonix, France.  Famous Ski Movie maker Gregg Stump donned Chamonix the ‘Extreme Skiing Capitol of the World,’ not a bad place to cut your teeth?  Ever since then Doug has been passionate about snowboard mountaineering.

Of the famed 7 summits, Doug has climbed 3, Kilimanjaro, Denali, and Vinson down in Antarctica.  The latter of those three is a place where he has done extensive exploration. Besides this feat, Doug has numerous ascents and snowboard descents down there, including an epic first descent of Vinson on a snowboard.

Besides guiding for Adventure Networks International and snowboard mountaineering, Doug was also involved in the media and television industry doing some work behind the lens as well as in front of it – appearing in ads for Coors, Diet Coke, etc. . . One memorable stint in front of the camera was in the Battledome arena.   This television show is not unlike American Gladiators, but with a WWF edge.  After witnessing numerous injuries amongst his co-competitors and being crowned “Battledome Champion of the World 2000,” Malibu Doug called it quits.
