09:02 am CDT Jun 09, 2009
(MountEverest.net) 2009 is turning a dark year in Himalaya climbing. Shortly after summiting Makalu; Australian Mick Parker passed in Kathmandu last Thursday, while American Wade Johnson’s remains were found yesterday in avalanche debris on Sichuan’s E Gongga.

5x8000ers summiteer Mick Parker dies in Kathmandu

Australian Mick Parker (36) was found dead by his landlord in Kathmandu last Thursday. He had summited Makalu together with British Roland Hunter on May 21st. “The results of the post-mortem indicate his death was a combination of exhaustion, some lingering effects of HAPE and alcohol,” Mick’s climbing mate Roland Hunter told ExplorersWeb.

“We had a superb summit day on Makalu, making Mick's 5th 8,000er,” Roland added. “His other summits include Cho Oyu, Broad Peak, Manaslu and G1 - all without supplemental oxygen.”

Wade’s remains found

A second body was found yesterday in avalanche debris on China's E Gongga – it was identified as Wade Johnson, 24, of Boulder, CO.

Wade, originally from Arden Hills, MN, was photographer and film maker with a climbing expedition on the Western Sichuan’s mountain. The team also included Jonny Copp, whose remains had been found one day before, and Micah Dash. Search parties continued looking for the third missing climber today, AdventureFilm.org’s blog reported.
