Nives and Romano bag Manaslu summit - the "three sopranos" now even on 11, 8000ers
06:23 pm CDT Oct 06, 2008
(MountEverest.netstory edited 02:23 pm CDT Oct 07, 2008) Also Romano Benet, Luca Vuerich and Nives Meroi summited Manaslu yesterday, about one hour after Edurne´s team according to some sources. (Ed note: the Italians summited on Saturday, one day before Al Filo.)
The couple had not updated their website earlier today probably for technical reasons, but writes Paolo Roncoletta (journalist with the Italian Public Network Rai) in a short note to ExWeb today, "I called Nives on the phone and she confirmed the news."
Paolo mentions that in an interview with Planetmountain.com, Nives said that the fixed rope ended about 30 meter before the true summit.
"So now, the 'Three Sopranos' are all even with 11x8000ers," commented Rodrigo Granzotto Peron from Brazil, referring to Edurne Pasaban, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and Nives Meroi - all closing in on the 14, 8000ers - the high pitch list not yet crowned by a woman.
