(MountEverest.net) In a story last week, Volker Kuebler said he is filing a law suit against Kari Kobler's outfit, after a spring 2007 climb on Everest north side. Volker said that the leader would not allow a few days for recovery when members got sick, used all available summit Sherpas for a favorite client and his own third, personal attempt to reach the summit, while other clients were put on a backburner for a summit push one week later, expected to rely on Sherpas by then required to summit a second time.
In emails to ExplorersWeb this week, Kari Kobler denied all the accusations. Kobler stated he would never be "so stupid" to rush his customers, and included an email from another set of clients that spring (American Marolt brothers) vouching for him (the Marolts however only used Kobler's logistics services, and did not rely on him as a guide on the Everest climb).
The expedition leader stated he had 6 high altitude Sherpas for his main group, out of which he used two in the first attempt. Out of the four clients he guided, two summited with him at the time. Kari Kobler states that Volker suffered an ailment unknown to him which prevented a successful climb, and that he has new guidelines for evaluating clients in upcoming expeditions.
